Onda lifting in Korea is a non-surgical contouring treatment that uses microwave energy to heat fat and the deeper layers of the skin. At OGANACELL Dermatology Clinic Magok in Seoul, about 10 minutes from Gimpo Airport, Onda for the face is ₩700,000 for 60kJ (10% VAT not included). Daily activities are usually possible right after treatment, with 1–3 days of mild redness or swelling, and flying is usually fine from about 24 hours later.

This guide covers what Onda is, how the kJ dose relates to price, how many sessions are usually discussed, what downtime looks like, and how to fit a session into a Korea trip. If you are still deciding between Onda, Thermage and Ultherapy, start with our Thermage vs Ultherapy vs Onda comparison — this article stays focused on Onda itself.

What is Onda lifting?

Onda is an energy-based device made by DEKA that delivers microwave energy, which the manufacturer calls Coolwaves, through a cooled handpiece. Instead of working mainly on the skin surface, the energy is aimed at the fat layer and the lower dermis. The goal is to reduce small pockets of fat and support firmer-looking skin in the same area, without incisions or injections.

That is the main difference from the other two lifting devices people usually ask about: Thermage uses radiofrequency to heat the dermis, and Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound aimed at the deeper SMAS layer. They are not interchangeable, and which one fits depends on whether your main concern is fat, skin laxity or deeper sagging. For a side-by-side look, see the comparison guide.

How much does Onda lifting cost in Korea?

At OGANACELL Dermatology Clinic Magok, Onda for the face is ₩700,000 per session for 60kJ, with 10% VAT added at checkout. If the doctor recommends a different energy amount for your face, the price for that plan is confirmed at consultation before treatment.

A few things to know before you compare any Onda quote:

  • The kJ number is part of the price. A quote without the energy amount is hard to compare.
  • VAT is no longer refunded. Korea's VAT refund for foreign patients on cosmetic procedures ended on January 1, 2026, so the price you pay includes the 10% VAT. See our 2026 tax refund update.
  • Exchange rates change daily. Card charges are converted at your card issuer's rate on the payment date, so check the current KRW rate when you budget.
  • Body Onda is priced separately and is not covered here — see our Body Onda guide.

The current price and treatment details are also listed on our Onda treatment page.

How many kJ do you need?

The kJ figure is the total energy delivered in a session. More energy is not automatically "stronger results"; it usually reflects how large the treatment area is and how much fat and skin thickness there is to work with. A smaller area such as the lower face or under the chin may be planned differently from a full face and jawline.

The amount is decided after the doctor examines your face, checks fat distribution and skin thickness, and asks what you want to change. If you are quoted a kJ amount before anyone has looked at your skin, ask what it is based on.

How many sessions, and how long does it last?

Onda is usually planned as a course of about 3 to 5 sessions, spaced at least 4 weeks apart. Some changes may appear within a few weeks, and changes in fat and firmness can continue to develop over weeks to months after a session.

Results commonly last around 3 to 6 months or longer, but this varies widely with weight changes, age and lifestyle. Onda does not stop ageing or prevent fat from returning if weight increases. If you can only visit Korea once, ask during consultation what one session can realistically do for your concern and how follow-up sessions could be arranged.

Does Onda hurt? Downtime and flying home

What to expectTypical range
PainAround 2–3 out of 5; a warm, deep heat sensation
AnesthesiaNot usually needed
Treatment timeAbout 30–50 minutes, depending on the area
Time at the clinicAbout 1–1.5 hours including consultation and checks
Downtime1–3 days; daily activities are usually fine
FlyingUsually about 24 hours later

After treatment, the area may feel warm, look red, swell slightly or feel tender to the touch. These reactions usually settle within a few days. If you still have noticeable swelling or warmth, it is better to wait until it improves before a long flight.

A simple trip plan: book the consultation and treatment early in your stay rather than on your last day. Leave at least one full day between Onda and your departure flight, and avoid scheduling an important photo shoot or event in the first few days afterwards. Our clinic is about 10 minutes from Gimpo Airport, and Magongnaru Station (Line 9 and the Airport Railroad) is about a 5-minute walk away, which makes a stop on the way to or from the airport practical.

Who is Onda for — and who might need something else?

Onda may be worth discussing if:

  • you are bothered by fat in a specific area, such as the lower face or under the chin, even after exercise or dieting;
  • you have some skin sagging together with that fat;
  • you want localized contouring without surgery or injections.

Another option may suit you better if your main concern is skin laxity without much fat, or deeper sagging of the mid-face and jawline. In that case, ask about radiofrequency or ultrasound options such as Thermage or Ultherapy.

Tell the doctor before treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have metal implants or an electronic device such as a pacemaker, have an active skin infection or open wound in the area, take blood thinners, or have had fillers or threads placed in the area. These do not always rule treatment out, but they change what is safe to do.

Side effects and aftercare

Common reactions after Onda include warmth, redness, swelling, tenderness and mild discomfort in the treated area. Less often, people may notice bruising, a lumpy or uneven feeling under the skin while swelling settles, or temporary numbness. Burns are rare but possible with any energy-based device, which is why the treatment should be performed and supervised by a doctor.

For the first few days:

  • avoid saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and alcohol while the area feels warm;
  • skip harsh exfoliants and strong active skincare on the treated area;
  • use gentle cleansing, moisturizer and sunscreen;
  • contact the clinic if pain, swelling or redness gets worse rather than better.

Results and side effects vary by individual. Onda is a medical procedure, and the right plan should be decided after an in-person consultation with a doctor.
